Role Overview

Gatherers typically fall into three main categories

  • Sourcing - Determining and establishing relationships to establish new sources for donated food.
  • Collecting - Drivers with vehicles that can physically go and pick-up food as it is available.
  • Growers - Individuals, Families, Churches, etc. that are intentional about planting gardens that will be donated to feeding the hungry once they are harvested.

Because food availability is difficult to judge, gatherers who are available to retrieve food with short notice are needed to ensure good food is not discarded.

Gathering & Distribution typically requires 4 hours to pick up from participating restaurants and deliver.

Helpers that can use their personal vehicles (i.e. larger vans, SUVs, etc.) are very much needed and appreciated.

Workflow

Step 1:  Gather

  • World Garden (or participating restaurant) receives call of food availability.
  • World Garden contacts Gathering Team Members for Availability to Pick-Up Food.
  • Food Retrieved.
  • Food Stored (frozen) until Preparation/Cooking team takes over.

Note: Preparation of food is constrained by food availability, scheduling, kitchen qualifications and ability to transport food certain distances.

If your organization would like to be added as a potential preparation point, please send an email to food@cobblestoneproject.org

Step 2:  Prepare & Cook
